The 10” Heavy-Duty Box Style 12-Volt Trotline Winder is designed for recreational and light commercial crabbers who prefer a traditional, compact box-style setup. Built with a durable aluminum housing and powered by a reliable 1/4 HP 12-volt motor, this winder provides strong, consistent pulling power without the size or weight of a full heavy-commercial unit.
This box-style winder features a fully enclosed design with a flip-top lid, helping reduce mud, water, and debris from slinging throughout the boat during retrieval. Its compact footprint allows it to be mounted in a wide variety of locations, making it an excellent choice for boats with limited deck space or unique layouts. Unlike chute-style winders that discharge line to a specific side, the box-style design allows for more flexible mounting options anywhere on the boat.
The box-style configuration is best suited for chicken neck crabbing, allowing bait to feed freely and operate smoothly. While this winder can be used with clam bags, it is not recommended for crabbers who primarily run clam bags, as chute-style winders are better suited for that application.
The winder includes 10” replaceable galvanized liners designed to grip the trotline, along with steel or stainless steel sheaves, depending on the selected option. A line kick-off knife is also included, which is designed to kick the line off the wheel during retrieval for smooth and consistent operation.
Powered by a 1/4 HP 12-volt motor with a high-torque gearbox, this winder efficiently pulls in trotlines and snoodlines. For best performance, it is recommended to connect the winder to a boat battery that is being charged by the engine alternator, as alternator output (approximately 14 volts) provides increased speed and torque compared to a standalone battery.
This winder comes standard with a 10’ marine-grade power cord with inline fuse protection and a mounted 12-volt switch, along with an extra-large splash guard to help control debris during operation. Designed for use with 1/4” three-strand rope or #8 solid braid, with or without snoods, this heavy-duty box-style winder delivers a reliable balance of strength, flexibility, and compact design for frequent recreational and light commercial use.
